Hi, To better understand the issue we have with our clients with Siteglide...
Here is the products on BC with Grouping : https://www.clim-cash.fr/catalogue-boutique/autres-produits/composants-frigorifiques/accessoires-de-ligne
and the products on Siteglide without that Grouping option...
Still waiting for the "Steroides" on Siteglide...
Hi Daniel,
Sure, so it looks like you can also use attributes to achieve this result.
You can find out more information about setting these up here -
Product - Attributes
Liquid Reference For Product and Attribute Layouts
Attribute Layouts
Changing Price As Attributes Are Selected
I hope this helps, thank you!
Hi, I will have Amol and Sunil answer to you, but it really is not the same thing... Attribute is not grouping. We shows it to Luke, Martin, Robert already... Take sometimes to compare both... I will like to see what Siteglide can do using attribute if I am wrong... Just to add, that Siteglide can use my Clim Cash site to make a demo...
Hello Emily,
Daniel is right. Siteglide Attributes is not same as BC product grouping. Because In Siteglide Attribute there is Single Product with different properties. But BC Product grouping is multiple products grouping together By some common property Color, Size (Small, Medium). Etc
- Using Siteglide Attribute we can't group products using CSV.
- But in BC product grouping we can Group products using Backend functionality as well as CSV.
- In BC we are grouping similar products but Each products have Separate image, Quantity, Description etc.
- So if we change the Drodown parameter then entire product information will change. i.e Name, image, description, Quantity etc.
- In Short, In siteglide Attribute Products are not separate which is being grouped together.
But in BC Products grouping, Every product is individual. And it's information, image, quantity could be different.
- Exact Requirement => We should be able to group individual (separate) products together. we have Products with variations but Each product is separate product.
- We shows it to Luke, Martin, Robert already. And I think Daniel shared the credentials for BC site login.
- I have added screenshots for better understanding. Ref. BC Products Grouping.
Thanks.
Sunil - I read your response, thanks for the detail. Is there a reason that using the Data Source custom field type you couldn't group products together?
This was my thinking too.
Hello Devon,
- I think you are talking about the grouping which we use for Related Products. i.e we create a custom field and the field type will be Datasource Multiselect.
- If yes. My question is On list View how can we add the Grouped products variations in Dropdown ? And on changing the dropdown option How the product info. and button link will change ?
- Second thing, We also want the dropdown to show in the detail view. If we change the dropdown it will not redirect to a new product but it will change all product info. and if we click on request a quote button then the updated product ( changed product from dropdown) will be added to cart.
- Because we want to display the product variation property in the dropdown. i.e. Variation in Size
- I have referred document for grouping of products https://developers.siteglide.com/how-can-i-set-up-product-grouping-and-allow-customers-to-switch-views-to-another-product-in-the-group
But we don't want to use it. Because it's not that feasible for us. Here we need to create a category for each group.
- Already we have so many categories on site. And we have so many grouped products (almost 500-1000). So this method will increase hundreds of categories.
- I would like to request that you, please take a look at the Live site which is on the BC platform.
https://www.clim-cash.fr/catalogue-boutique/autres-produits/Accessoires/accessoires-de-ligne
- Please check the list view and detailed view of products. If needed Daniel can share the Login credentials also.
- And let me know how we can achieve this in siteglide.
Thanks.
You can use a DataSource Multi field for this, and a combination of JavaScript and Liquid to update the data shown on page.
Hello Matt,
- If you are not talking about grouping using categories. Could you please provide some document for this ? It will helpful for us.
Thanks
Thanks for the clarification. I don't have a better idea than the doc that you mentioned, and since it seems your challenge is the scale (the number of products and categories required), I'm sorry but I don't have a better way to suggest managing it with current functionality.
Hello Devon,
scale (the number of products and categories required) is not only the reason. As per this doc. we can use the grouped Products on detail view only. Because of the changing dropdown here URL is changing. It's not changing product info.
- So if we add this dropdown to the list view then also on dropdown change it will redirect to detail view of the product.
- If we have 5 variations of a product then if the user wants to see the variations on the list view, on every change of dropdown it will redirect to detail view of the relative product. Do you really think as a user does it provides flexibility ?
- Also, we don't have a direct option to add product variations text which will appear in the dropdown. as per this doc. you are showing the product name in the dropdown. May be to achieve this we have to add custom field in product and we have show that field value in dropdown.
- In BC we can add the product variations text while grouping itself. or in CSV we can add variations in a single column.
- This is not exactly the same as BC. We want the same because from backend/ CSV it's very easy to group the products and also from frontend it's very flexible for users to see different variations of products.
- Sorry Devon, but we expect a solution which will provide more flexibility.
Thanks
Hi,
It look like some of you thinks it is possible to do it and give the same result that I have on BC with Grouping.
Why don't you make me a proposal (I am ready to pay) to make that work for me on my Siteglide Site...
The site is ready, but we cannot launch as the client refuse the way it is set now (long list of product on site glide instead of drop down list on BC)
Here is the products on BC with Grouping : https://www.clim-cash.fr/catalogue-boutique/autres-produits/composants-frigorifiques/accessoires-de-ligne
and the products on Siteglide without that Grouping option...
https://dand1.prod01.london.platform-os.com/boutique-produits/autres-produits/composants-frigorifiques/accessoires-de-ligne
Grouping should work from the CSV import template as for BC
Just for memory, I really think that if we want to use Siteglide for e-commerce that this functionality should be included in the engine.
Until I find a solution, I will have to use Wordpress Woocommerce . Sad no ?
Waiting for your proposal...
Many thanks for taking the time
Thanks
Wondering, for what it's worth.....
Right now, the way Siteglide is set up, it's possible to swap out the image, price and name. Which is great, but doesn't easily allow swapping out of other dynamic content, which was something BC grouping accomplished.
I realize this is likely a lot of additional work for Matt @Matt Walter and team (sorry), but...
Wondering if it would be possible to get similar functionality as BC grouping if new custom field(s) could be added to the attributes tab/table?
Ideally, what if 2 or 3 new field/column(s) could accommodate text editor, etc so, Sunil and others could add dynamic content such as descriptions and have them swap out, just like the images and prices?
So you would have one dynamic attribute section above the pricing, etc. and another dynamic attribute description below the pricing. @Sunil and @Daniel Depaz of course would need to confirm that this would be a viable solution.
The best I can figure, the product list items would likely be easiest displayed as a single product, with a pulldown containing attributes. And the selected attribute carried over to the detail page. I know, this is not how the BC handled grouping products, but might be the best /only way to get close in Siteglide.
The detail page could swap out the dynamic attribute fields, using some onchange javascript, so the web visitor could change the attributes and corresponding image, price and text fields, if needed.
If I recall correctly, in BC, if the visitor wished to purchase different qualities of different attributes, it was really only possible if they ordered each product variation separately. Not sure the solution offered here, can do better?
One upside to using this solution is you wouldn't have to worry about the SEO downside of duplicating content (although I recall there was a way within BC, to prevent this).
So, the attributes tab, if possible, might look something like this....
If this works, it would also mean that the product information could be easily uploaded and downloaded via CSV, etc.
Again, not sure if this helps solves the grouping issue. But figured I'd throw it out there...
Is this what it needs to do? I'm not sure what else BC offered?
This was a quick proof of concept thrown together. Obviously room for improvements in places.

This could be extended to detail views obviously.
Hello Matt,
First of all Thank you for providing us detailed demo of our requirement. we are quite satisfied with your demo (70%). It will be helpful if you clear our doubts.
- If we select anyone dropdown option of a product and if we click on Add to Cart then the selected (updated) product must be added to cart which I think is not present in your demo right now.
- If we applied your demo to detail view, will above requirement still works ?
- The dropdown option names in the demo are Product names itself, but we want other names to be displayed there.
For e.g Any property name or variation name. refer screenshot attached.
- will this code ( Product Layout and Grouped Layout ) available to us ? Because we are unable to see what code is present in group layout.
Thanks.
Hi Matt,
Big thanks for the demo, that except the few questions Sunil asks looks good to me.
Great work.
From there, what I understand is that I should pay Sitegurus to fully developp that option for ME
Question : Will I be able to sell MY option to other Siteglide user needed it ?
I say that because I think that option should be integrate for all in Siteglide e-commerce sites. In BC it is a native option. Still missing the steroïdes...)
Anyway, I will contact Sitegurus for my next e-commerce site.
Have a great day
Daniel
@Matt Walter Regarding 3rd point I have tried to clear it in the following points. Hope You will understand.
You have access to all the Product's data. Create a custom field for this, and output it in your layout wherever you want.
If Matt's demo was extended to the detailed page - what do you think @Daniel Depaz @Sunil
Close? Thoughts?
Thanks Elen,
We will go for Matt option with Sitegurus.
Keep in touch.
Daniel
Nice demo Matt!
Coming in late to this discussion but the other thing grouping solves is that pesky inventory for attributes
How?
What i mean is Grouping in BC allowed for tracking of inventory per product as the products were stand alone so inventory easily entered and tracked. Current attribute system does not have inventory per attribute
Ah right, so the solution we've proposed covers this too then.
Hi @Matt Walter - wondering if there are plans to add inventory tracking for individual attributes? Thanks

Hello, We had Sitegurus built the "Product Grouping option" for us. Even so it cost us pretty good money, we ready to give it for free to any of you who need that option. Contact me in case you are interested : daniel.depaz@wsidom.fr Regards, Daniel
@Daniel Depaz that's really generous of you. Thank you Daniel!
