@Nick Fenmor Collins @Nick Fenmor Collins I know you've got quite a few eCommerce sites you need this for so wanted to check you see it!
Yes....all over it ...as you can imagine!
Thanks again :-)
I’m excited about the implementation of Product Attribute imports/exports, though I need some further clarification.
I've got a small test batch of products that I've manually added Attributes for. When I exported the Attributes spreadsheet to test adding attributes to more products or to edit existing records, I find that the ID and Parent ID keys have been added in such a way that it’s not possible to know which line goes with which product - which makes the data impossible to manage. So I tried to edit them to make them more manageable and intuitive. Maybe this isn’t possible?
QUESTIONS
To manage the Attributes via spreadsheet, we need to know which Type/Name groups go together so that options are correctly assigned to the right attribute and product. The spreadsheet export assigns ID and Parent ID numbers, but I'm not seeing a logical connection between them which links the Attribute to the Option.
Hope some of this makes sense. I might be missing something really obvious. Thanks for any thoughts.
If the Type is 'attribute', then the Parent ID should be the ID of a Product.
If the Type is 'option', then the Parent ID should be the ID of an Attribute.
You can run an export of Products to find the IDs you need, and then copy them over into this new sheet.
If you want to add a new Attribute and Options for that Attribute, then you should first just import the Attribute so and ID can be generated for it. Then do a 2nd import for the Options.
When adding new items in an import, then you shouldn't set the ID field, as the system hasn't yet assigned one.
Thanks much, Matt, this helps a lot. I'll give it a shot.
